Sunday 8-2-26 with Pastor Chris

Aug 2, 2026    Pastor Chris Pfeffer

What does it actually mean to have faith? Not the watered-down, checkbox version of faith, but the kind that holds steady when life gets hard and the answers we are waiting for have not yet arrived. This message takes us on a journey between two dangerous extremes -- a paralyzing doubt that questions whether God even hears us, and an overconfident faith that quietly shifts from trusting God to trusting faith itself as a possession. The real destination is what Scripture points us toward: maturing faith. Drawing from Ephesians 2 and the rich landscape of Hebrews 10 and 11, we are reminded that both grace and faith are gifts we did not earn and cannot manufacture on our own. The Hebrew concept of faith as an 'enom' -- a pillar that holds up our beliefs -- gives us a striking image to carry with us. Our beliefs are only as steady as the pillar supporting them. And that pillar is not built overnight. It grows through digesting the Word of God with the Holy Spirit as our guide, through obedience, through community, and through keeping our eyes fixed on who Christ is and what He has already done. This is not a passive process. It is an ongoing, living relationship with a God who is always drawing us closer.
